The Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française (DELF) A1 exam is the first level of French language certification offered by the French Ministry of National Education.

Presentation

The DELF A1 is a diploma that certifies basic French skills at A1 level. The diploma is valid for life and demonstrates that you can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases.

This internationally recognized diploma helps you develop fundamental French communication skills for personal and professional use.

Practical Information

This exam is available for candidates of all ages (minimum 13 years old for junior version, 18+ for adult version). A valid identity document is required for all exam sessions.

Candidates can retake the exam as many times as needed, with a minimum 45-day waiting period between attempts at the same level.

Program

The DELF A1 consists of 4 tests:

  • Oral comprehension (listening)
  • Written comprehension (reading)
  • Written production (writing)
  • Oral production (speaking)

The minimum passing score is 50 out of 100 points. Candidates must score at least 5 out of 25 points in each section. A score below 5 in any section results in exam failure.
